New domains are on the way

This WebLinks site is all about place names on the internet.  Every post I’ve ever made on this blog has given you a link to a great web site.  That link always contains a domain name – the name the site owner registers which usually ends in a dot-com (“.com”) or a “.com.au” or a “.net” or “.org” or dot-something.  These dot-somethings are known as Top-Level-Domains (TLDs).  

Very soon there are going to be hundreds of new generic TLDs released, such as “.photography”, “.estate” and “.kitchen”.  For example, if your business was John Smith Photography, you could register the domain “johnsmith.photography” – no need for a dot-com.

I don’t want to promote or endorse GoDaddy, but they seem to be the only domain registrar promoting the new Top-Level-Domains.
