These days, many people are publishing their own websites. It might be a family site, personal blog or photo gallery, but what ever it is you really want an easy to remember URL address. If you’re lucky you might be able to get a “dot.com” domain to suit, but if you’re an Australian you might like to look at an “id.au” domain.
All other Top Level Aussie domains ending in “.au” (like “.com.au” or “.net.au”) can only be registered to businesses, but the “.id.au” domains are specifically for individuals or families.
You could register your last name to give everyone in your family a custom email address (eg; bail.id.au ).
You might want to set up a personal blog with your name as the domain (eg; scottbridges.id.au ).
With domain registration costing less than $10 year, you could just reserve your “.id.au” name for a future site, which is what I did - simonyeo.id.au (I then set up a free basic site using Google’s Blogger service to just post some links to my other sites.)
The personal domain for Australians, check it out… www.id.au
(I’ve just proof read the above, and it sounds a bit like a sponsored post, but I assure you it’s not – just a link to a site I’ve used myself, and in this case the introduction to a good idea for those who might be setting up their own web site.)
