It’s an experiment that's been going for 80 years, which was designed to demonstrate the fluidity and high viscosity of pitch, a derivative of tar.
In layman's speak this goo is so thick that it has produced only 8 drops in 80 years, with the 9th formed and ready to drop. Yep, it sounds so exciting that you might prefer to watch grass grow, but with a live webcam its interesting in a geeky kind of way.
In that post I gave you a link to a page on the universities web site, but now they’ve also set up a dedicated domain which streams HD live video of the Pitch Drop experiment.
Check it out… www.theninthwatch.com You’ll have to log-in (you can use Facebook) and then you might just witness the ninth drop.
After the pitch has dropped, we might have to set up some sort of grass growing live web cam to keep up the excitement – just kidding!
