Pitch Drop

I was watching the technology podcast, Tekzilla, recently and saw this discussed in their “Websites we cant get enough of” segment.  It’s an experiment that's been going for 80 years at the University of Queensland, which was designed to demonstrate the fluidity and high viscosity of pitch, a derivative of tar.

In layman's speak this goo is so thick that it has produced only 8 drops in 80 years, with the 9th forming now.  Yep, it sounds so exciting that you might prefer to watch grass grow, but with a live webcam its interesting in a geeky kind of way.

If you’d like to see a rare drop, check it out… http://smp.uq.edu.au/content/pitch-drop-experiment
