Every “Web Links” post I’ve written all have one thing in common; an internet domain for you to click on to see the web page I’m talking about. To obtain a domain, it needs to be registered – usually for one or two years, but what happens to a web site if the domain registration isn’t renewed?
These days a simple “dot.com” domain name can cost as little as $10 per year, so renewal could easily be overlooked. A transport company I once worked for didn’t renew their domain and lost all access to email for 2 days (not to mention the company web site) while it was re-registered.
Recently the Australian technology site TechAU had a similar drama. Site founder, Jason Cartwright, has written a blog post about the hoops he had to jump through to get his site back on line, with a reminder to web site owners to check their domain expiry dates!
